Meet Our Pastors

           Rob Freshour

Pastor Rob became our Senior Pastor on Sunday, August 20, 2006. Since 1980, Rob has served churches in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and Indiana.  Before he came to FBC South Lyon, Rob served five years on the Church Growth Ministries Team at our Baptist State Convention of Michigan. His ministry ventures have characteristically been shaped by his enthusiasm to know Jesus more intimately and to make Him known more intentionally.

Pastor Rob believes God's vision for First Baptist Church (indeed, every New Testament, Great Commission church) is every member a missionary from South Lyon to Southeast Asia, from our living rooms to the ends of the earth!  He prays: "Let the peoples praise You, God; let all the peoples praise You!" (Psalm 67:3).  He longs for and lives the day when we join that "vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb ... cry out with a loud voice: 'Salvation belongs to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!'" (Revelation 7:9-10).

Rob and his bride of 27 years, Donna, are raising five children to share these same passions. He loves to laugh with the family, worship God, make disciples, and preach and teach the Word of Life. An avid reader, Rob has an open book in every room of the house. Right now, his favorite authors are CS Lewis, Randy Alcorn, John Piper, David Platt, and John Eldredge. In addition, our pastor likes to write. Check out some of his articles on Pastor Rob’s Fresh Word page. You can even follow him on Twitter!  When he’s not reading a book or working, he enjoys cheering on his teams (the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Pistons, Detroit Tigers, and Ohio State Buckeyes). He also Tivo’s his favorite TV programs (Fringe, Blue Bloods, The Biggest Loser, and Survivor).  To find out more about Pastor Rob, visit him on facebook (www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=575052023) or ask him for a Google+ invite.

Pastor Rob tries to make the first part of 2 Chronicles 16:9 his life verse: “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him” (NLT). He believes Ireneaus was right: “The glory of God is man fully alive.”

If you were to ask our Associate Pastor, Randy, about his passions, it wouldn’t take too long to figure out that he is a life-long baseball fan. Randy has rooted for the Detroit Tigers since they won the World Series way back in 1968. Even during those awful years in the 90’s and early 2000’s, Randy has stuck by them and pulled for them to be a winning team.

Randy has another passion even stronger than his love for sports – his love for the Lord and the work that He has called him to do. Since coming on staff at First Baptist as Youth Pastor and Worship Leader  back in 1984, Randy has shown that he is able to stick with the job and has never lost the thrill of ministry. Randy has a strong desire to see people come to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord and to grow in their faith.

“I love what I do. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us that we ‘need to always be watchful and alert because our enemy, the Devil, as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour,” Randy says, “I see teenagers and others being ‘taken down’ every day. I would hope that I can point the way, through God’s Word, to head them in the right direction. This is why I do what I do.”
